Description

You are bidding on a piece of memorabilia, the actual newspaper advertisement for the 1971 Allman Brothers Band concert at CCNY's Lewisohn Stadium. A rare collectible for fans of the Brothers, and maybe you were in the audience that afternoon!  A bonus live CD recording of the show is included.
The members of New York City's CCNY class of 1971 enjoyed a great number of cultural activities on campus. Four thousand Aretha Franklin fans attended her concert in the open air of Lewisohn Stadium. The first big name concert at the College, the “Queen of  Soul” headlined with bandleader King Curtis and his Kingpins and Muhammed Ali.
A five hour rock concert with the Youngbloods, folksinger Jeff Cain and the Allman Brothers performing was the second big name concert of the season.
If you weren't one of the 150 lucky souls in attendance that afternoon at CCNY, you'll be glad you bid on this item because I'm throwing in actual recordings of the gig!
The discs contain some of the most outstanding slide work of Duane Allman's career.  Recorded on Sunday, May 2nd, 1971 at The City College of New York's Lewisohn Stadium outdoor bandshell, this is the afternoon show in its entirety!
Folksinger Jess Cain opened, with the Youngbloods on second. Yes it was a rainy day but a great concert. The highlight was Duane playing echo off the great granite seats of Lewisohn stadium. This as far as I know was the last concert at that venue which was eventually torn down.
The CD's are remastered from a 1st Generation Master Audience recording.
This performance opens up with a wailing version of 'Statesboro Blues', quickly followed up by a razor sharp take of 'Trouble No More'.  Check out Jaimoe announcing some of the song titles from his drum stool.  Thom "Ace" Doucette delivers some incredible harp, especially on ' Done Somebody Wrong' and  'One Way Out'.  Duane's lead playing on Elizabeth Reed' from 14:00 to 14:45 is all you will ever need to hear to understand why he was listed 2nd only to  Jimi Hendrix on Rolling Stone's list of the top 100 guitarists of all-time. The recording itself sounds truly remarkable considering its age and the circumstances under which it was captured (it was pouring rain throughout the show).  Everything is well-balanced and up-front, including Gregg 's red-hot vocals.  Duane's  famous guitar tone comes through loud and clear!  This nonfactory (non- s i l v e r) double disc set comes with full, detailed, color, glossy artwork and jewel case.
The other items and photos, including the booking sheets for this show (and a 2nd show later that night at Hofstra) and hand made poster are not included in the auction but appear for historical reference.
