    Description

93 CUTTINGS "ORPHAN BOY TOBACCO" MATCHBOOK. Pre-Owned  You can't help but like the advertising for "ORPHAN BOY SMOKING TOBACCO." And if you go online right now you will see all kinds of tins, posters, prints, tobacco pouches, etc. from the 1930s and 40s for sale. What is harder to find is the history of the product. I finally found out what I was looking for by looking up the company that produced Orphan Boy and that was the John Weisert Tobacco Co. out of St. Louis. Located at 1120 South Six Street in St. Louis the tobacco factory was built in two sections, one in 1903 and one in 1922. The second section was built with steel and concrete probably to avoid potential fires. With the five floors they dried the tobacco by steaming it; then they stemmed it and then on the second floor they packed the products for sale. The Weisert Tobacco Co. continued until 1989 when the company folded. This Matchbook has 15 matches with 5 missing. The drawing of course is what really makes this Matchbook collectable. And it's easier to handle than a poster or print. I ship all my Matchbooks in some sort of box for protection.
