The following is the history that we were able to research on this New York tugboat known as the Gotham:
Gotham was Built in 1951, by Avondale Shipyards of New Orleans, Louisiana (hull # 357) as the Socony 11
for the Socony Vacum Oil Company of New York, New York.
In 1955, the company became the Socony Mobil Oil Company of New York, New York. Where the tug retained her name.
In 1963, the company was renamed as the Mobilgas Corporation. And, then as the Mobil Oil Corporation. Where the tug was renamed as the Mobil 11.
In 1985, she was acquired by the Gellatly Petroleum and Towing Corporation of Hopewell Junction, New York. Where she was renamed as the Christine Gellatly.
In 1989, the tug was then acquired by the Kosnac Floating Derrick Corporation of Staten Island, New York. Where she was renamed as the Gotham.
In 2005, she was acquired by Vinik Marine Incorporated of Keyport, New Jersey. Where she was reamed as the Dorothy Elizabeth.
Named for owner Vinki Marine Incorporated founder Mike Vinik's grandmother Dorothy Azzolino. After the acquisition by Vinik Marine. The company conducted an extensive mechanical rebuild of the tug.
In 2009, the tug was acquired by the John Garner Marine Construction Company of Staten Island, New York. Where she was scrapped. She was a single screw tug, rated at 1,800 horsepower.
