Cleveland Tour Action Reg 588; 56° Sand Wedge; Black New/Vintage
My father was Scott Bess and in 1969 he won the Missouri State Amateur. Shortly after that, he turned Pro and played on and off for the next several decades, including the PGA Tour, Nike Tour, and some PGA Senior events. He was a staple of the Gateway Sectional and played on two PGA Walker Cup Teams. On top of that, over his career, he also played in 11 Majors.
In High School, he began repairing clubs and was a certified repair technician for several brands. In the 70's, he designed and sold his own line of persimmon woods. He met Roger Cleveland in the 1980s and they began a personal and professional relationship. My dad would work for several major brands including Cleveland and Callaway. Designing, tweaking, and making recommendations on several lines of clubs. He would work on the PGA Tour with players personally and travel with the tour most of the year. The stories he could tell, the things I witnessed as a child/teenager, could fill a book! Seeing other Professionals, Major Winners, seek him out for help with their swing or with a specific request on the grind of a wedge was something to be proud of.
He never could let anything go, and with his passing, I became the beneficiary of over 5,000 clubs, bags, prototypes, and other rare PGA tour memorabilia. I have spent nearly the last two years finding new homes for all of his things.
This is the last of this kind of "black" Cleveland wedge. It is stamped 56° and is new/vintage. It does have unique buffing/grinding marks, that in the right hands could be cleaned up. Minor nicks and dings from bag life, but in overall good condition. This would make a great display piece or regrip it and take it out and play! This is the only one like this I have.

Shaft: True Temper Dynamic Gold. IMO Stiff.
Original Royal Grip...ok for display. Needs replaced to play.
