ZAIRE #804 THE ZAIRE RIVER EXPEDITION COVER #3 OF ELEVEN - - You are bidding on one cacheted and addressed cover franked with Zaire #804, the 1k Foreman-Ali Fight tied by Kindu 6-11-74 Circle Date Cancellation. Flap is unsealed.
This cover represents the friendship and cooperation between Great Britain and the Republic of Zaire. The assistance given by  Zaire in the planning stages which started in 1971 continued into the actual Expedition when they provided 40 members of their Armed Forces and scientific institutions to accompany sections on the river and with scientific and support groups.
This Expedition moved by river party and travelled in Avon Professional inflatable boats up to Bukama where the river became wide enough to launch three Giant Inflatables. The Main Base at this stage of the Expedition was housed in several railway carriages known as the "logistic train" and moved parallel to the river dropping off stores and rations where required. The top of the cover bears a Red handstamped Expedition Logistics Train. This cover was carried to Kindu on the Flagship "La Vision" Inflatable. The cover was franked at Kindu when the boat arrived.
The cachet includes a Giant Inflatable pictured across the map of Africa. Also included is the Tsetse fly which represented one of the studies carried out by the Scientific Team which formed an important part of the Expedition.
